By now the compilation Sky Girl has long since become legendary and the most written-about release on Naarm label Efficient Space. It was curated by DJ Sundae who is one of the people behind NTS show No Weapon Is Absolute. Earlier in the year he created the double-vinyl compilation Mirrors that came out via Idle Press and EPSM Agglomération Lilloise Bicentenary. It included tracks from HTRK and Yo la tengo.
For Efficient Space, who are celebrating 10 years this year, he has put together Nothing Ever Was – a 13-track LP with music from the 1960s til today. With the resurgence of bedroom pop and slowcore it’s great to see the music of forgotten groups like The Motifs and the Boyracer-affiliated Empress (pictured). There’s also a wealth of undiscovered gems like Betelmire, whose track you can hear below. Out November 27.
