Beex

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #89

Beex grew out of Ricky & the White Boys – one of the first punk bands from Richmond, Virginia. Following the tragic passing of their singer Ralph Harper they recruited Christine Gibson and renamed the band. Their first single “(My Heart Goes) Beat Beat” came out on Wasp Records in 1979 and two more followed on their own label Zero Degree Records in the 80s. They actually have a webstore with the remaining stock of those singles. Local Richmond label Beach Impediment are releasing the retrospective The Early Years: 1979-1982 in a few weeks. It compiles the first two singles along with unreleased tracks from those sessions, like the amazing “Guyana”. Tom Applegate who played in Beex also had another group called L’Amour who got the reissue treatment a couple of years ago thanks to Beach Impediment.
