Mikey Young of Total Control released his quietly brilliant second album in 2019, but little did I know that last year was not only the year that gave us another great Green Child album – October also saw the release of Young’s latest album Curtains. It came out on Newcastle label Altered States and is full of more instrumentals of incredible beauty. It was recorded over the past three years, in his hometown Rye as well as in California where his partner Raven used to be based. She plays some saxophone on “Trains” and the short interlude “Books”. There’s a sort of haunted sensation hanging over most the record, in all its prettiness.
