Flaming Tunes

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #193

Flaming Tunes was a side project to English post-punk group This Heat. In 1985 their only and self-titled album came out on cassette thanks to Contagious. Gareth Williams from (ex-This Heat) had come back from a stint in India and recorded these 11 tracks in London together with childhood friend Mary Currie.

It’s a lo-fi musical collage that has inspired a plethora of current musicians and labels like Blackest Ever Black, Low Company and Altered States. In fact, Blackest Ever Black released the album on vinyl in 2012. And then again in 2020 it was reissued by Superior Viaduct, who have reissued so much great music from their base in San Francisco.
