An understated and under-appreciated record from December was Shirley Hurt’s debut tape on Telephone Explosion. Her selftitled album has the same immediate appeal as Jessica Pratt’s first album or Aldous Harding at her huskiest. “Let Me Down Easy” might be a future classic. Hurt’s real name is Sophia Ruby Katz and she is from Toronto, Canada.
