RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #131

Here’s another gem uncovered by Melbourne label Left Ear (whose Influenza Prods. retrospective we just featured). Picture Music was a Brisbane share house project from the mid 80s with a shared passion for soundtracks and library music. In 1987 they released their self-titled cassette on their own, filled with 11 dreamy numbers bordering on ambient. The idea was actually to use the tape to get commissions from filmmakers.

Nothing really happened until earlier this year when it was finally reissued on double-vinyl, remastered from the original tapes. All of the original sessions were done at night time (anyone who’s been to Brisbane knows how warm it’ll get) and music bears the mark of that nocturnal, slow-burning energy.
