Stephen

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #108

Stephen is a band we’ve been meaning to feature in this series since forever. They were originally formed by David Kilgour in Dunedin, New Zealand, after the seminal Flying Nun Records band The Clean split up the first time. Stephen put one EP on Flying Nun in 1988 called Dumb then recorded a bunch of demos that weren’t released until 1993 when the label put out the compilation cd Radar of Small Dogs. This 16-track record was given a vinyl reissue last year but has now been remastered and released with new artwork by Grouper’s label Yellow Electric. The LP came out a week ago.

The Clean got back together in 1988 and a new album called Vehicle was finally released a couple of years later. David Kilgour is still playing solo and together with his group The Heavy Eights.
