Lakes was the solo recording project of Sean Bailey from Melbourne, that took a deep-dive into dark folk and industrial perhaps inspired by Current 93, but also anarcho-punk. Their first album came out on Chapter way back in 2005, but recently the small AR53 label have been nice enough to compile a tape with some of Lakes’ defining moments – taken from recordings done 2012-2017. Painted Wreath holds 27 tracks, with Arms In Twilight and Blood of the Grove in focus. One of my faves is “Silver Thorns” with Ela Stiles on backing vocals, which comes from a 12″ released via Paradise Daily four years ago.
