Mariana Ingold

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #84

Mariana Ingold is a musician and composer from Uruguay who helped shape the Montevideo sound in the 80s, which has been called candombe fusion since it is a blend of traditional music of the African community and contemporary jazz. A couple of years ago the Melbourne label Left Ear released a compilation called Cara a cara, which is curated from Ingold’s 1986-1991 output and shows the incredible range and inventiveness of her compositions. Many tracks include synthesizers and electric guitars and have an almost timeless sound that also reminds me of Steve Hiett.
