Nocturnal Emissions

This year is 40 years since Nigel Ayers formed Nocturnal Emissions in London together with Danny Ayers and Caroline K. Mannequin Records are celebrating this by reissuing two of their seminal albums (they’ve previously reissued three other LPs). In total Ayers has probably released more albums than The Fall, many of them on his own label Sterile. Every bit as important as Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voiltaire, Nocturnal Emissions pioneered avant-garde techniques like tape-cutting, extreme noise and samplers. Listen to the grating “Mechanical Induction” from the 1983 album Drowning In a Sea of Bliss, or “Down the Sink” from the debut Tissue of Lies that both came out in September
