Here’s a group I’ve been meaning to write about for a good while. Star Slushy from Brisbane really made an impression on me when they played Melbourne in March. The music on their first tape Spikes / Spires is an amalgamation of freeform noise, punk vocals, unusual percussion and wayward melodies. Tracks like “Star Slushy S/Way” sound like they were recorded live just as they came together in the studio. All seven tracks are great, unfortunately the release is now sold out.
