A had to catch myself not to call them Painted Word, but Painted World – a new musical project that I don’t know much about other than than the fact that they appeared on the first compilation from Chicago label Grouse Editions. Now there’s a full-length album out on cassette via the same label. There’s a similar project from Massachusetts, called ‘The Painted World‘, so it might actually be the same musician. Either way, this set of wintry folk called Empire in Waiting is an excellent entry point into the murky world of Grouse. It came out in May and there are still a few copies left.
