Getting the Fear

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #149

The Southern Death Cult was not only the UK post-punk group that spawned goth forerunners Death Cult (or simply The Cult). The rhythm section formed Getting the Fear after breaking up following the release of the their first single. While the new project fared no better – a lone 45 came out via RCA in 1984.

Getting the Fear also broke up in 1985 and two of the members, including their vocalist, went on to form the more successful pop group Into a Circle. Two years ago American label Dais undertook to release a retrospective of Getting the Fear and it turns out they did record much more than the two sides of “Last Salute”. Death Is Bigger 1984-1985 includes demos as well as several unreleased tracks. These 12 track portray a group who reminds me of both Psychic TV and perhaps The Wake.
