Kvalia (or Квалиа) is a duo from Krasnoyarsk in Russia. Previous releases seem to have included more personnel, but this rather minimal piece of industrial music is inspired by Einstürzende Neubauten and the Belgian DIY scene of the early 80s. The bandname comes from the philosophical concept of ‘quaila’, essentially meaning the ways things seem to us. On their recent 12″ Схоластические Грёзы Силовых Машин (scholastic dreams of power machines, bit of a mouthful) they create some intensely dark soundscapes with minimal means and a dose of noise. The record seems to be released on a label called Swish Swash last autumn but there are no references to such a label online.
