Tommy & the Commies

Even though I completely dropped the ball with the debut LP by Canadian powerpop group Tommy & the Commies perhaps I can remedy that with spotlighting their latest release, also out on Slovenly. Hurtin’ 4 Certain is an EP with four more hits combing the best of US powerpop with a UK punk delivery inspired by The Jam and early punkrockers like The Users. I was intrigued by the closing track “One Arch Town”, which is actually a reference to their home Sudbury. It’s not just a pun on a one horse town, there’s literally a burger place across the street from McD, with just one golden arch.
