Twin Cosmos was Morihito Ito and Yasuhito Ito – identical twins from Yokkaichi in Japan. Double Action was an LP they released themselves in 1982 and sold “mostly to family and friends” and then it “fell into obscurity”. The Melbourne label Left Ear reissued this artefact of underground Japanese music last month.

Each side of the record consists of songs from one of the twins, blending acoustic and synthesizer sounds. Morihito studied acoustic engineering in Tokyo in the early 70s and his side has a soft sound overlaid with gentle waves washing over sand. Yasuhito lived in New York and recorded the songs while his brother was visting him there. His side is darker and definitely more crude in it’s concept, like the 20 second “How Short Our Life Are!”.
