Verlaines

Last year New Zealand legends The Verlaines released their first album in seven years. Just like 2009’s Corporate Moronic, this one is a self-release and so far only in a digital format. While their previous release Untimely Mediations came out on their old label Flying Nun, there have been no news of a physical release even though you’d assume Flying Nun would be tripping over themselves to release this album. This is a looong record, 19 tracks in total and Graeme Downes has never been known for writing short tunes. Dunedin Spleen still sounds a lot like the the group did in the 90s. Plenty of great moments here, like the beautiful “I Am”.
