Gena Rose Bruce

Easily among the best records to come out during the summer, Gena Rose Bruce’s debut album Can’t Make You Love Me is a haunting affair. Much like her countryman Charlie Collins, she operates within the folk spectrum but with a decidedly more bluesy vocal style that has garnered her comparisons to Hope Sandoval. The record that came out on Dot Dash was preceded by number of singles, perhaps most notably “Rearview” and its beautiful video. Jade McInally of Jade Imagine plays some guitar and bass on the records, and I must say the bass arrangements are a large part of what makes this album brilliant.
