Badge Époque Ensemble

Badge Époque inevitably reminds me of 60s French weirdo Buddy “Badge” who recorded under a number of different names included Les Papyvores and Pro Cromagnum (compiled on a number of cool LPs like Wizzz). Maximilian ‘Twig” Turnbull hails from Toronto however, and he has just put together a band with members of U.S. Girls’ live band (an artist he has worked a lot with recently). Together, the Ensemble churns out long jams that merge library, world music and funky jazz at a level that should make Khruangbin blush. It’s amazing to see more and more bands on experimental/indie labels delving into this kind of territory.

This time it’s Telephone Explosion who does the honours. You can check out three tracks from the self-titled 6-track debut already. The full album drops in a couple of weeks. If you love the new L’eclair record, this LP is guaranteed to get your musical endorphins flowing.
