Operelly is a fairly new name to me and the world, having released music online since 2022. Olivia Austin from California, who is Operelly, put out a demo last year and has since been lumped in with a new wave of artists like Quiet Light that are hyped but have little in common. Her new EP called Handwriting Practice No.1 reminds me more of much older stuff like The Motifs. These are 6 unassuming pop songs with a lot more depth than you’d think. They came out via the weird little label Deadair in May.
