Spike Hellis is a duo from Los Angeles that I’ve been lucky enough to catch live twice. Both times were at Grauzone festival in The Hague, and the most recent set is actually available in full on youtube, with Elaine Chang coming on stage on crutches. Their new album came out in August, four years on from their debut. Successor is a 10-track LP, pressed in California and self-released although I hear they have a EU pressing in the works too. The sound of the new album is tense and taut, with plenty of influences from EBM. It’s a bit less punk that its predecessor, mainly due to the vocal delivery, but “Periplaneta” is a nice exception.
