Opéra De Nuit was a French coldwave that we featured early on in our 80s HITS series. Not the be confused with Opera Multi Steel, who formed around the same time in Bourges, Opéra De Nuit came from Valréas in southeastern France. I mostly love the track “Ami! Amant!”, which features vocals from Valérie who wasn’t a core member of the band. It originally came out on the EP Sourire De L’ombre from 1986 and has been included on a few compilations. I always wondered why they didn’t let her sing all their songs.
It was also on their only album – the selftitled LP that they put out themselves in 1988. This one is now getting a reissue thanks to American label Dark Entries. Expanded to a double-vinyl, it also includes all the tracks from their two EPs. 13 tracks and out August 28.
