One of the few post-punk bands exciting me right now – the NOTS-related Memphis group Optic Sink – took on the task of soundtracking some of the work of legendary filmmaker Maya Deren. Meshes of the Afternoon is a classic silent film 1943 (a still also appeared on the cover of one of Primal Scream’s earliest singles). On Relentless Metamorphosis: the trio give that and 3 other pieces from Deren new life with music. Two of the pieces are presented along with the film on bandcamp, check out one of them below. The LP came out in April via the Dig! label.
