First time in Lyon, France, for me and 2026 was the first time I visited the festival Nuits Sonores, which has been going for over 20 years. It’s really a celebration for the inhabitants of Lyon and one guy told me it’s the one time of year he meets all his friends, since moving away from the city. So I wanted to give you some flavour of Lyon in this photo story too. All the images are from my Chinon from the early 80s.
The main festival site at Les Grandes Locos is huge, fitting up to 12,000 people. All in all I think 50,000 tickets are sold every year but many more partake in the free events like the daytime open airs, the Lab programme of workshops and talks etc etc. It was great to meet my fellow Reset Network members and the radio residencies were great. Seoul Community Radio were invited as well and their takeover was amazing.
Over at Le Sucre and La Sucrière it was another vibe, with mostly younger people and the Muakk label showcase was very much appreciated. The first night of the festival was dedicated to hardcore and post-club sounds and it was crazy to experience the energy in the room as people like Lisa More, her partner Notinbed and Aamourocean all played.
