Blxty is an often overlooked American producer and performer of digicore and cloudrap. Part of a generation of artists that started composing during the pandemic, they’ve collaborated a lot with likeminded producer Mental, who has also produced most of the new album bb. It was self-released digitally April 24, but in the past Blxty has collaborated with Blackwinterwell’s collective Helix Tears. On the 16 tracks are also appearances from Lucy Bedroque and H3artch3rades.

It’s nice to see that the connection between all these artists is not just in my mind, but on insta people like Senses and Kuru are commenting/mentioned in the same post. For some background, a lot of these people met for the first time in Philadelphia, 2022 at the Fiona’s World live show. It was organised by a guy called Gibby and it later occurred in other big cities, as a forum for mainly internet-based artists to play live. Some of the artists that have performed apart from blxty and mental (who met IRL for the first time) are Psych, Angelus, Blackwinterwells, 8485, FearDorian and Xaviersobased (who is probably the most successful of the lot now).
On a side note, Fiona’s World got its name from the animated tv show Adventure Time, in which there is an alternate reality where everyone has swapped genders. This is a recurring theme for digicore artists, as they try to break down normative gender roles through voice manipulation, fashion and visuals.

In July there’s a US tour featuring Mental, Osquinn, FearDorian, Tropes, Heartstopmiami and others that feels like a natural continuation of Fiona’s World – also coming through Philly.
