Q&A: Teenage Angst

Today event and mix series Teenage Angst are taking over our radio show on Noods Radio, so we asked them a few short questions about what Teenage Angst is all about. They’ve curated events in different cities with some of my favourite acts like Diet Rave Star, Coucou Chloe, Locre and The Femcels. The brains behind Teenage Angst is Metaphys1ca, a hardcore DJ and neotrance producer from St. Petersburg who is known for ethereal and intense performances. Let’s hear what she has to say about her baby.

Who are Teenage Angst and what is your purpose?

Teenage Angst was born as a reflection of the struggles of the 2020s era, when the new generation faced covid, wars, degradation in ideological and political discourses but still needed music and support.

Your events gather likeminded souls, what do you think you all have in common, across borders and social backgrounds?

The most important thing for us when we organise events is to create a safe space for everyone: at our party you can meet furries, gabbers, hard techno snakes or event reptilians. But all of them came just for da music and to relieve the anxiety that endless doomscrolling causes.

There is a lot of late ‘00s energy in Teenage Angst – what attracts people to that era in your opinion?

It’s not all about 00s, it’s also about 90s trance and hardcore and 10s indie music and beyond. We accept every genre. My fav part is when it becomes like a rollercoaster. Like an event can open with an uptempo set and then there is a headliner with ambient and then uplifting trance, and so on. We can do whatever.

What are some of your favourite sets at Teenage Angst so far from other DJs?

Every event is special and unforgettable, so it’s hard to pick one. It’s really about pure magic and taking in the aura of freedom that we are creating.

The magic is apparent, but I guess there’s also a lot of work when you don’t have an agency to handle things?

It’s a bit hard for me to personally to handle everything, because there are a lot of things you need to manage at the same time as you are also performing at an event. But I just can’t NOT do it. Cause if not me, then who would make this come true.

How is your show on Ola Radio different from experiencing Teenage Angst in the club?

It’s very free, since I can invite people from different parts of the world to express themselves. There is no obsession about specific genres. Just people and their fave music.

Who/what is your main inspiration in 2026?

Everything around me inspires me at some point. I can go for a walk and find an Arabic shawarma restaurant with funny lights and sculptures or an abandoned ship and decide, ”yeah let’s drop a hardcore party here”. So here we go.
