Let’s continue down the shoegaze path and talk about Yujin – a Vancouver-based DIY musician whom we just included in our Apple Turnover playlist of April. I actually wanted to shine a light on an album that she released last year called Seven Stars. It’s pretty much a classic dreampop record that sounds a good as some those early 90s Slowdive moments. Yujin Kim seems to be a one-woman show, with the help of a rotating cast of producers. I’m guessing it’s mostly digital and samples apart from the guitars because it almost sounds too perfect. A track like ”See You Tomorrow” has the same kind of instant appeal as ”1979” by Smashing Pumpkins. It came out August last year, but sometimes it’s ok to a bit late to the game.
