SY3 is the trio of Chinese-American artists Kelly Guan, Alex Ho and Phil Cho who are all based in Los Angeles. Alex Ho is an NTS resident and released a great album on Music From Memory back in 2021. Already back then were him and Cho collaborating and with the addition of Guan on vocals they’ve produced the stunning debut EP 梦游 Sleepwalker under the name SY3 (which is should be said ‘sigh’). These 5 tracks sound a bit like the recent Trickpony album, but also reference 90s Chinese and Japanese artists like Faye Wong and Poison Girl Friend. Another reference is the classic 1997 movie Made in Hong Kong, which I love.
