Colleen, or Cécile Schott, is a French artist who broke through with The Golden Morning Breaks in 2005 on the small label Leaf. I loved that record and she was right up there with Joanna Newsom, múm and CocoRosie at the time. Like them she also played a bunch of festivals and I was lucky enough to see her in Sweden. Since 2003 she has put out 9 albums, most of which I hadn’t heard, but she’s been working with Thrill Jockey for years. Like on the fantastic The Tunnel and the Clearing from 2021. They just issued her latest record Libres antes del final on March 20.
Just in time for her appearance at Rewire festival in two weeks, where she is set to perform at Concordia on the Saturday and then at Theater aan het Spui on the Sunday. She is now based in Spain and the new 5-track LP has all its titles in Spanish.
