Spanish industrial groups Diseño Corbusier was of course featured quite early on in our 80s series, but I hadn’t hear of Ani Zinc’s solo project until more recently. María José González, which is her real name, started experimenting with sound collages early on and before releasing with Diseño Corbusier, already had the project Neo Zelanda. It has nothing to do with New Zealand, instead the first release was Radio Sabotaje from 1982. It mostly consisted of manipulated radio recordings and voice. A couple of singles/EPs followed but after Diseño Corbusier ended, she put out a full-length called Mix Zelánea.
This 11-track LP was recorded in Granada in 1985 and appeared on their own label Auxilio De Cientos the following year. It was reissued much later by Spanish label Munster. Munster began in the 80s and is mostly known for reissues of garage and psychedelic music from the 60s and 70s. But this record is available on vinyl again since 2023, thanks to them.
