Ada Rook

Ada Rook, formerly half of Black Dresses, has been busier lately than I expected. The Canadian artist has after all completed 13 solo album, both before, during and after Black Dresses. When they finally called it quits for real two years ago, Rook started a new duo with Lauren Bousfield, called Door Eater. Their debut Try came out in 2025 and the same year Rook also put out the solo album Unkillable Angel.

That was in February, so one year ago. But it was followed by an EP together with Blackwinterwells, and then another album in October. Called 59 Nights, this is a 10-track digital release on her own True Portal label. About half of them are covers, with Kittie’s ”Brackish” being the standout. Especially since 4 tracks from that band’s overlooked 2000 nu-metal debut came out in new versions last year, for its 25th anniversary (this being one of them). Check out Rook’s video below. All of the tracks were recorded 2021-2025.
