One of the best new artists I discovered in 2025 was Julia Casablancas, a New York-based trans songwriter who not only has a really great name but also makes emo music sound cool again. We already included her track “Faded” in our monthly playlist Apple Turnover and she released a new single in December. Both that and a new version of the former appear on her new EP Doomed Yuri. This came out a couple of days ago (February 2) and is a great follow up to the debut album from about a year back. The opening track also featured Latinacroft, another NYC artist.
