I was convinced I had heard Hop before, but I don’t think so, they just remind me a lot of so many artists I like. The New Jersey-based project released its first album You Would Like That on January 2, via New York label Soap Library. There are echoes of Voice Actor, The Beta Band and Croche on the 11-track cassette that comes with a ‘beaded buddy’. Hop Peternell is the artist behind the project, and it’s unclear to me whether other people have been involved in the recordings as well. It definitely sounds like a bedroom project, but Peternell is also working with a label called Beauty Music in New Jersey, offering a studio time for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
