Caterina Barbieri and Bendik Giske without a doubt two of the most important composers of the 2020s. They first met at Kunsthaus Glarus in 2019 and Giske later contributed a rework for Barbieri’s Fantas Variations that came out on Editions Mego in 2021. Later in the same year they started collaborating and in February the fruits of that labour is coming out on Barbieri’s Light-Years platform. The 4 tracks on the LP is named after a certain syntax – ”two evocative words that contain the two poles of their sound”. If I had to guess the first part is Barbieri’s and the second Giske’s – making the meeting between synthesis and the human all the more concrete. Listen to one of the tracks from At Source below.
