To continue our main end-of-year list, let’s take a look at my favourite EPs of 2025. I agree that this is a tricky definition when many releases are not referred to as either albums or EPs, because there is no determining physical medium. But streaming services still seem to uphold the distinction, even if the labelling is sometimes incorrect.
Is the Kissland 7” an album? Is a 7-track release an EP? I think it can be if it’s reasonably short, just like a 6-track 12” can be an album if it’s long. Some artists just refer to releases as mixtapes as well, but I think this is a strong non-album signal as well. Either way, it’s an opportunity for me to list some more releases that have been integral for me this year.
