First of all, I’d like to give a massive shout out to Boomkat, for creating one of the most valuable resources of the year with the EOY-lists from so many artists/creatives that it’s literally a who’s who of contemporary music (from a Western Europe perspective). This year, our own end-of-year lists take a slightly different format. Instead of distinguishing between electronic and other stuff like punk/synth/postpunk, I’ve decided to make one main list and one for dance music. This is because too many releases would fit into both otherwise, seeing as most music is more or less electronic.
We’re keeping the divide into full-lengths and EPs/7″s though, because there are still people who make albums – believe it or not. What I’ve seen this year though, is an increasing share of our coverage in self-released music. And of course an insane amount just being released as single tracks – mostly on soundcloud. Someday I’ll have to figure out a way to compile these in some form. You’ve heard many of them in our Apple Turnover playlist, which works better for singles. But since many producers are now shifting away from Evilfy, I’m looking into other options. New Commute have already left, and I really applaud them for that.
The first list to be shared is the albums, in no particular order, and with links to listen and read more. I encourage you to buy music from these exquisite releases if you have the funds.
