Rita P’s real name is Emilie Palmelund – a Danish, London-based musician who has been playing in Bar Italia’s live band. There are definitely echoes of Nina (Bar Italia’s) approach to music-making on her first album Rita’s Purse that came out on the local label Jane Records in May. Like other UK labels Scenic Route, Relaxin and of course World Music are reviving the pretentious indie for white people, which most of the time feels like surface only. Not so in Rita P’s case – these 13 tracks are rewarding on several levels.
