Poetical Licence was the project of Aotearean musicians Mark Airlie and Keri Ansley. Airlie was born in Scotland but found himself in New Plymouth in the 80s, where they met. Their only single ”Footprints” was recorded in Auckland and came out ini 1986. It’s a beautiful guitar-driven piece of coldwave that reminds me of early Strawberry Switchblade. It was released by the duo themselves so is of course incredibly rare these days.
Thankfully the folks at Naarm reissue label Left Ear gave it new life in 2023. It’s still available so get yourself a copy of this classic. Sadly, the musicians never really went on to release much else of quality.
