We’ve already mentioned the release of The Motorcycle Boy’s 1987 Peel Session on Precious Recordings of London that came out in August. They had relocated to Edinburgh from Glasgow and recruited singer Alex Taylor from local band The Shop Assistants, as seen below.

Eddie Connelly has also started the small Narodnik label to release the debut single by another Edinburgh band Jesse Garon & the Desperadoes. The Vultures were yet another group that appeared on Narodnik, with their only 12”. Sonically they were aligned with Rote Kapelle (a band that shared members with Jesse Garon but had a more post-punk sound).
Perhaps that’s not so surprising considering The Vultures shared a drummer with Rote Kapelle – Ian Binns, who was also in garage band The Thanes for a while. Apart from him, The Vultures was a trio of female musicians and unfortunately they were shortlived on the scene.
The did however manage to record a radio session for Liz Kershaw’s show on BBC. This features two unreleased songs as well as a cover, and was released on a 10” by Precious Recordings back in April. On their own bandcamp the band have also shared two demo versions – of ”Something New” also cut in the session and of ”Sad Song” which appears no where else. These were recorded by Angus McPake of The Thanes, who was a central figure in Edinburgh and played in many different bands.
Eddie Connelly sadly passed away in 2023, but after running Narodnik he went on to manage Creation group Adorable in the 90s.
