80s HITS: Las Ánimas Del Cuarto Obscuro

Las Ánimas Del Cuarto Obscuro was a Mexican post-punk group from the late 80s, formed in CDMX. Their first album was self-titled and came out on their own label Aruba in 1988. At the time their style was quite unique in Mexico, where there were only a few other groups, like Size, who were experimenting with this sound.

Today the album has become a classic of that era and for its 35th anniversary the group made it available digitally, as well as a a limited tape. The first vinyl reissue occurred in August, when London label La vida es un mus put it out after what seems to have been a very long process.

After the breakup of the original group Toño Sánchez used the name Las Ánimas for his solo releases, which continued into the 90s.
