It’s the end of an era as the German duo Brannten Schnüre (Katie Rich and Christian Schoppik) bow out with one final album. It’s the last in a what someone called a trilogy – one that began on Low Company in 2019. Today the sound that Low Company helped cement is almost omnipresent, and at the same time forgotten.
Brannten Schnüre have also become less active over the years (their latest album came out on their own label Quirlschlängle in 2022) and with Landschaft aus Tränen their time comes to a natural halt. Inspired by neofolk artists like Current 93, this is a relatively approachable record that includes 12 wistful and inventive tracks. Get the album from their one-time label Aguirre.
Someone also uploaded the whole thing to youtube. Why don’t you put on their 2021 mix for NTS featuring 80s female artists from Germany and go full nostalgia?
