Control Room

Hattiesburg is not only the Mississippi hotbed of punk, it’s also home to the coldwave group Control Room. During the pandemic spring they released their first full-length album Scenery. It came out on the German label Cold Transmission, which curiously still makes CDs. The record definitely brings back memories of listening to albums like Low Life on CD back in high school. It also sounds like music inspired by Molchat Doma, with its prominent bass lines and carpets of synthesisers. On some of the tracks the production gets a tad to big, but I really like the more post-punk tracks like “War”.
