The wait has been long, for a follow-up to LA psychedelic outfit Levitation Room’s Ethos from 2016. But it’s been well worth the wait, because new album Headspace on Greenway Records is a modern classic. Every bit as great as their friends Triptides have become in recent years, these 11 songs take you to a different plane. Sounding like to many of my favourite ’68-’70 singles, tracks like “2025” (check out the video) and “Mr. Polydactyl Cat” are stunning. And “Ooh Child” is so instantly familiar you’d swear you’ve heard it before. There’s also a cool sunshine-pop vibe in places that will have you thinking of The Fun and Games or The Gordian Knot.
