Here is the second album from Los Angeles-based trio Susan. Their first album Never Enough appeared about three years ago, also on the San Diego label Volar Records. As I Was gives you ten tracks with a retro 00s sound – thin guitars and cheap drums that will make you miss both Dum Dum and Vivian Girls. Not much in the way of innovation, but then on the other hand we get a brilliant cover of Marine Girls’ “Dishonesty”. They actually did a whole set at Part Time Punks covering Marine Girls. Perhaps they have another career to pursue there.
