Central Unit

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #56

Central Unit was an Italian group pioneering minimal wave and experimental synth-pop. They burst out the gates in 1982 with the Loving Machinery EP recorded and produced by themselves in their home of Bologna. With lyrics in English, it sounded like the more experimental stuff released on Factory. The following year, their self-titled album came out on CDG. This rather ambitious release was produced by the bass player of Tuxedmoon, after having covered one of their songs on the debut. This record was even more experimental, including saxophone, piano and violin. The group broke up in 1984, only to reform in 2000 with a slightly altered line-up.
