Look Blue Go Purple

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #46

I’d completely forgotten about this retrospective, put together by Flying Nun and Captured Tracks in 2017, until I picked up a copy yesterday. Apparently it had been sitting in the bins for a year with no buyer, which is incredible considering the quality of Look Blue Go Purple’s output. In many ways, they were the anti-thesis to the male dominated Flying Nun bands that sometimes were a bit too rock and not enough punk. Look Blue Go Purple’s songwriting was quirky, intelligent and a fresh breeze in an otherwise dreary decade. The 80s in New Zealand, that is. Still Betwitched compiles all their EP on three LPs along with unreleased live tracks dating as far back as 1983.
