Exploding Flowers

Exploding Flowers released an unexpected gem of an album back in the summer. With a throwback name like Exploding Flowers you’d expect maybe a powerpop or late 80s indie sound. Instead, the LA group is casting a glance at the paisley underground scene on Stumbling Blocks. Their second album in ten years definitely has all the trappings of The Salvation Army or perhaps The Things (both from LA). “I Need Your Devotion” might be one of the best psychedelic tunes of the year. The singer even sounds a bit like Michael Querico. The LP is out on their own label Smash It Up! (if anyone has the LA Times 45 on the same label I’d love to hear it).
