Loving is a trio from Canada that caught people’s attention with their first EP back in 2016. But I really wasn’t prepared for the serene beauty of their debut album If I Am Only My Thoughts that came out at the beginning of the year. It brings my mind back to the days when nearly everything that came out of the Woodsist studio had a magic glow. Loving transcends the late 60s overtures of those groups with a record that is as lush as it is timeless. If anything it brings the unique melodies of Sparklehorse to mind. I believe these songs could be sculpted into any genre, be it jazz, MOR pop, bossa or kraut. It’s a modern classic, as silly as that sounds.
