Hexdebt

Melbourne continues to hold our attention, here with Hexdebt’s first album Rule of Four out on Poison City. Their first release since the debut single “Bitch Rising” (2017), it starts out with the Joy Division style riffing of “Era”. Agnes Whalan’s spoken vocals superimpose an interesting rhythm over the band’s brooding post-punk sound. “Loops” adds a bouncy Gang of Four bassline to the mix. Overall, it’s a very British sound that at times remind me of the great Ipso Facto from London. The vocals much more punk, and while not quite in the same league as Control Top, they’re definitely playing in the same ballpark.
