Cheepskates

Alright, everybody. This Sunday is Cheepskates day here at Record Turnover. Cheepskates were a NYC group that will mainly be known to garage revival heads from the 80s, due to their 45 called “Run Better Run”. What many people don’t know that however, is that the group really nailed the moody, organ-driven sound that wasn’t really given much attention until bands like The Sound Explosion started appearing in Europe (check out “Why Is Love” on their debut LP). Cheepskates also continued to record some highly accomplished pop records during the remainder of the decade.


Across five albums and one live LP, they penned some brilliant tunes, often verging on powerpop territory. Here are a couple of my favourites:
